Hypselonotus punctiventris ranges from the southern United States to Costa Rica; possibly introduced in Florida. The adult is 13-16 mm long; the head and thorax are pink or tan with dark stripes; hemelytra are purplish brown with light venation; the abdomen is red dorsally, apparent mostly in flight. This species feeds on sap of plants from the family Malvaceae, but also a wide variety of other species.
